RouteGenie Partners with Uber Health to Strengthen Patient Access to Care
Strategic partnership brings Uber Health’s global rideshare network into RouteGenie’s medical transportation platform across the United States and Canada.
RouteGenie, the operating platform for medical transportation, today announced a strategic partnership with Uber Health, Uber’s transportation platform for health and social care organizations, to help strengthen patient access to non-emergency medical transportation across the United States and Canada. The partnership brings Uber Health's global rideshare network into the operating platform used by 600+ fleets, health systems, and health plans.
Transportation is one of the most-cited barriers to medical care. Missed and delayed appointments cost the U.S. healthcare system an estimated $150 billion annually, and patient access is increasingly measured at the plan and system level – tied to Star Ratings, value-based contracts, and member-experience scorecards. This partnership formalizes a model RouteGenie believes is becoming the operating standard for one of healthcare's most fragmented coordination layers: medical transportation managed across owned fleets, contracted networks, and on-demand rideshare from a single platform.
Through this partnership, Uber Health's network is available as a trip source within RouteGenie – alongside customers' in-house fleets and contracted transportation providers in the same workflow they use today. Trip status, ETAs, and billing data return automatically – RouteGenie customers gain access to a Uber Health's network without adding another system.
Healthcare doesn’t have a single operating layer for medical transportation today – customers routinely run several separate tools to coordinate the same kinds of trips. This partnership is how that changes, with Uber Health joining the operating environment our customers already use. It’s the model healthcare is moving toward.
Transportation is essential healthcare infrastructure, critical to improving access to care. By integrating Uber Health’s transportation network into the tools RouteGenie’s customers already rely on, we can help simplify operations while expanding access to convenient and accessible rides for the patients and members they serve.
What the partnership unlocks differs by audience.
- For patients, this partnership is designed to improve ride availability – for situations like after-hours appointments, out-of-area pickups, and days when local provider capacity is full.
- For transportation providers, it means a controlled overflow option and a growth path into new markets without adding to their fleet – available inside the same dispatch environment they use to run daily operations, whether they already run RouteGenie or are evaluating it for the first time.
- For brokers, health plans, and health systems, it means a single operating environment for the trips they previously coordinated across multiple portals and vendor relationships – with role-based access for the different teams involved in patient transportation. Discharge nurses can request rides directly. Care coordinators see live status and ETAs. Compliance and finance teams pull consistent reporting and audit-ready data across the network.
The partnership advances RouteGenie’s work of making medical transportation a managed operational layer for healthcare – not a procurement line item, but a coordinated function health plans and providers can govern alongside the rest of patient access. As healthcare puts more weight on transportation as a measurable access outcome, the operating layer RouteGenie is establishing through this partnership is positioned to scale with where the industry is going.
The partnership is available now to all RouteGenie customers. Transportation providers, brokers, health plans, and health systems can schedule a walkthrough at routegenie.com/get-a-demo/.
